Tell Me More

The time is fast approaching when information will have to come up in a real, tangible way. For too long now we've been waiting for Wizards of the Coast to announce the release dates for upcoming products and now it seems that they are about to show up. While I'm going to be purchasing the Starter Set when it comes out - and I will use it to make my decision on whether or not to purchase the core books - I have to say, I'm kind of tired of waiting for a date to be given. To the point where I kind of don't give a fuck anymore.

Seriously, Wizards, if ever there was a way to undercut the enthusiasm within a community for your product this has clearly been it.

  1. Really? 'Cause the Blizzard "It'll be ready when it's ready and it'll be awesome so just wait" hasn't done them any damage. So maybe the problem is you.

  2. I won't get the starter set. It comes out about 3 weeks before the PHB and ha-ha-- I remember the Red Box from 4 years ago (a 4e product that was incompatible with all other parts of 4th edition).

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

    1. The big problem with the Red Box was that it came out almost two years after the game had been released and was useless. I'm hopeful that with the Starter Set coming out before the release of the actual game that it might be useful for more than a doorstop.

    2. We were having a discussion about this over on G+. I'm in the "If it has a bunch a neat stuff in there, then I'll buy it" camp. And everyone, including me, are pretty sure that it will be a couple of booklets, a couple of maps, a set of dice and that's it. I'll probably buy it and keep it in shrink, just for shits and grins. Now, the PHB on the other hand, will be an instamaticalicious purchase.

But, yeah, I'm with you Charles. Give us more information. Tease us like teenage boys on prom night. Just give us more.

I'm okay with that if there's a high enough production quality and it doesn't suck like the 3e version and the 4e version.

    4. Oh my god... please what does it mean "instamaticalicious"? Never heard or read before! :)

    5. Best I can tell it's the sort of thing that you have to buy because it's too good to pass.

  3. Ok, totally confused.

You're upset that the release dates haven't been given but you know they're about to show up. Huh?

There was a leak from Barnes and Noble a while back that had the dates in it, but Wizards was incredibly quite on the matter. A lot of comments were passed about from people as insignificant as me to Paizo publisher Eric Mona about the leak that splashed a lot of cold water on it. Then a slew of new leaks were brought up on EN World's forum that seem legitimate as the source has been right time and time again.

  4. I see now (kinda sorta).

I read it as, "I wish they would get on with telling me information I already know! What's keeping them?"

My guess, having followed nothing but the occasional posts about 5th on blogs like this one, is that the starter will land just before Gen Con and the PHB at Gen Con. I could be wrong. As I said, I really have little to no clue in regards to anything about this new edition.

For those interested, here's hoping it isn't 4th!

    1. "here's hoping it isn't 4th!"

While I liked fourth I always felt like they fucked everything up when it came to the release and follow through. So every time I read something like "here's hoping it isn't 4th!" I read it as, "Let's hope they don't fuck up again!"

  5. For the sake of the fans and D&D community, that is the meaning I'd like to convey.

  7. Me too I will give a try to the Starter Set and then based on its quality I decide if buying the manuals.
