Tell Me About Your Favorite Game

So after proposing the idea yesterday I was kind of worried that this would be one of those things that I thought would be a good idea but everyone else was all "Wut?" Thankfully that turned out to be a foolish worry as I've already been joined by a bunch of great people on this project. Who's joining me on this project? These cool people: +Judd Karlman, +Roger Brasslett, +Kelvin Green, +David Guyll, +Ralph Lovegrove, +Adam Dickstein, +Jens D.+Stelios V. Perdios+Douglas Cole, +Peter Maranci, +Mark Van Vlack+Travis Milam+Timothy Brannan+Nicholas Bergquist, +Richard Halpin, +Rod Thompson, +Patrick Henry Downs, +Andrew Davis  +Vb Wyrde+David McGuire+Murky Master+Denis McCarthy+Chris Patrick Carias Stas, +Erik Tenkar, Rob Abrazado+Zach H  and +Kevin Smith!

The sign up period for this project doesn't end until Monday, April 27, 2015. If you're on the fence there's still lots of time left to pick out your favorite game and join up. We've got a lot of games still left to be spoken for so here's a short list of games I'm hoping to have included (the ones struckthrough have already been definitively spoken for) that is by no means complete. If your favorite game isn't listed then join up and tell me you want to talk about it! I'll add it to the list because this is a project where the more people we have involved, the more games we talk about, the better!

Remember, if no one signs up for one of the systems then it won't be in the PDF and it won't be in the online series. Don't let your favorite be left out!

What's this whole project about?
The core idea of this project is, "I love this game, now let me tell you why." What we're doing as a group is each author is taking their favorite game; telling you what they love about it; posting it on their blogs; and then at the end I'm compiling all of the posts into a single Free PDF.

If I want to join do I have to pick one of those games?
Absolutely not! If you've got an obscure, out-of-print favorite that has been rocking your world then talk about it! If your favorite game is a little known indie game that has been the best experience of your gaming life then tell us about it!

What if I want to join but don't have a blog?
Do you have Google+? A Tumblr? Do you have e-mail? If you answered any of these then you can totally join this project.

How do I join?

    1. We'll be firming this up once everyone has joined but I'm shooting for late July / early August as I think that will give everyone time to complete it. If everyone can be done earlier than that then we'll be earlier.

    1. You're in Holmes! And I've sent you to a link on the G+ discussion that's going on so far.

  3. If our favorite game is a homebrew we created, is that acceptable as well?

    1. Absolutely, but make sure that there's a way for people to get it, whether it's a free download or a link on a pay site.

    2. Ok that's fine then. At the risk of being one of those "toote your own horn people", I'll be happy to talk about Elthos RPG... it's my favorite, possibly in the same sense that people say "...a face only a mother could love", but still... it's mine and I'm kind of crazy about it. :p ... by the way, what kind of word count are we looking for, if any?

  4. I'll do the Mayfaire Exponential system, better known as DC heroes 3rd eddition. So under appreciated.

  5. I'll do Adventurer, Conqueror, King. And if you'd like you can include an old post of mine on Chivalry & Sorcery in the PDF.

  8. So dibs are due on Monday. When do you want the write up and how long?
I am considering Moldvay Basic (and Cook/Marsh Expert).

    1. I answered on G+ but just in case, it needs to be a minimum of 1200 words (no max) and we'll be shooting for a late July early / August release. And I hope you do end up picking Moldvay Basic because no one else has picked up a basic yet.

    2. That answered my word count question.

  9. I feel good about my choice to do Star Wars D6, but if no one does Star Trek (FASA or LUG) I'm gonna feel like a traitor, LOL.

  11. I will take one from the list, D&D Basic (Moldvay) and and one off, C. J. Carella's WitchCraft RPG.

  12. OK. If no one else has it, I'd like to take Harnmaster (the original system, but I can touch on the evolution of Harnmaster Gold vs Handmaster 2nd Edition too). I played that for over 12 years, and have a lot of good things to say about it. I can talk a bit about Harn (the setting) as well.

    1. I've got Douglas Cole on GURPS so if you could do BlueHolme that would be excellent!

  18. I'm too late for AD&D, but I could share about my first love: Basic D&D (Holmes edition), if that would be acceptable to you, sir.

  19. Hi Charles,

HeroQuest 2 is not on the list. This is the RPG by Robin D. Laws, published by Moon Design, NOT the MB Games boardgame of the same name.

This is a narrative RPG, and easily my favourite game. If you are happy to add this to the list, then I would like to claim it.

    Great idea,
    Phil

  20. May I have The World of Darkness? My interest is in the 2004 edition: commonly referred to as new World of Darkness (nWoD).

  21. Is anybody doing the D&D Rules Cyclopedia yet? Would be a shame to not have it in there ... If it's not already taken, I'd do it (if that's alright).

  22. Great :-) It's HM 4e and the D&D RC then.
