Friday Artfest: Ark by Manabu Ikeda

Manabu Ikeda Ark (2005) [click the picture to make it bigger]

I love pen and ink art, and over  the last twenty years I've spent a lot of time working with that medium. Nothing I've ever done or seen has compared to Manabu Ikeda. His unparalleled work with ink has made my jaw drop and this piece in particular has forced me to rethink what I've done and what I'll do in the future.

What do you all think about it?

  1. Pretty cool stuff. I could see how a really large version of this would be really cool as there is so much detail to examine. Makes me think of a Roger Dean if you applied a post-modern filter to his work.

  2. It's pretty darned cool. It looks like a great place for an RPG adventure but not one detailed at 10' to the square.

  3. A most impressive piece. In some ways it reminds me of the art of Naoyuki Katoh, even though is it really very different. Very intriguing find my friend.
