This Nostalgia Thing is Going Too Far.

I'm walking through Wal-Mart yesterday when what do I find but a Rolling Stones CD. So I pick it up and start going through the track listing and remembering where I was when I heard each of the songs for the first time - and before I know it I've bought a CD.

Who does that?

Anyway, because it's fun to be all nostalgic and stuff, I thought I'd post some of my favorite memories and the songs associated with them.

Not Fade Away - The first time I heard this song I was sitting on the back porch of a friend of mine watching some idiots smoke crack in the woods about a hundred feet away. They had invited me to come along but I preferred drinking to losing teeth and blowing strangers for drug money.

Get Off My Cloud - I was sitting on a large stone over looking my Aunt's pond and trying to untangle my fishing line when a seven pound catfish hit the line and tried to make a run for it. I reeled it in by hand while the song played in the background. As I finally pulled him out of the water he stung me and barked. I smacked him against the stone and got my lure out.

Paint It, Black - I was slipping through the back roads pushing my old '85 pickup to the line and watching the speedometer bounce as went airborne. Before the song finished I hit the next hill and made another jump.

You Can't Always Get What You Want - I was sitting on my bed in the dormitory listening to my crazy ex explain why I had to take her out right then when a friend of mine heard her caterwauling. He put his speakers out the window and started blaring this song. She didn't get it and I couldn't stop laughing long enough to explain why it was so funny.

Beast of Burden - I had just gotten off a twenty hour shift and was smoking a cigar outside of a little diner on the edge of town when a trashy little girl put on this song and danced her way over to my table. She pushed my food away and started to climb up on the table. The manager threw us both out and we spent the rest of the night talking in a nearby parking lot. I went back to work and forgot all about her.

Waiting On A Friend - I was making a cocktail to take to my Philosophy class when I got a call that my Uncle had died. I sat down on the bed and tried to remember what I was doing with my life when my friend Little Bear came in. We blew off class and hit on the girls at the UC.
